How to ask Walmart for a donation for charity and / or your public schools

In case you didn't know....your local, neighborhood Walmarts have an awesome foundation set up for licenced charities and public schools across the nation.  If you would like to be considered for a cash, or other item donations, the process is relatively simple and takes only a minimal amount of time.  Limited funds are available for public school donations, so you want to try and get your application in at the beginning of the school year, or as close as possible to the start of the school year.  Here are the steps you need to take to apply for a donation.

1. Get permission first (if this is for a school donation) from your public school.  School policys on donations vary, so you want to make sure you are following their guidelines for this. (talk to a principle)

2.  Go to Wal-Mart and request a donation application at the customer service desk located at the front of the store.

3.  Fill out the application. Do not leave any blank or incomplete information.

4.  Write a cover letter to go along with the application explaining what the donations would be for and what kind of donations would be appreciated.

5.  Show cover letter and application to the principle for approval or any changes that need to be made.

6.  Mail both cover letter and application to the address listed on the application.

7.Wait for a confirmation letter on the status of your application.  If you have not heard anything back with 2-3 weeks time contact the customers service desk or Walmarts corporate office to see whether your application was accepted or denied.  (You want to make sure you wait for your confirmation letter of the donation from Walmart before purchasing anything from the store.)

8.  Be sure to send a thank you card to Walmart thanking them for their generous donation and participation.

Alot of other stores do this as well, so check around and ask....it never hurts to ask and your local community might really benefit!

E-Coupon Program Stack Even MORE Savings With SavingStar

Here is another way to get even more savings from your shopping trips!  There is a new E-Couponing program called SavingStar which is a paperless way to link your shopping and drug stores to their current loyalty card programs.

All you have to do is register online or with an iphone app (there are around 24,000 participating stores), pick out your e-coupons that you'd like and they are then automatically linked to your loyalty card.

Your bill, at checkout, is still going to look the same, but once you reach at least $5.00 you can choose to be payed out from a few different options...Paypal, Amazon.com, deposit into your bank, ect.

Great thing about these is they are also stackable WITH your paper coupons that you bring with you!  Even if you're store doesn't have a loyalty card, it doesn't mean that they're not participating....you have to check.  How you check is by going to SavingStar and entering your local zip code and doing a search for participating stores in your area.

This takes about 5 minutes to sign up and get everything in place, but after that you're set!  Let me know what you think.

Defending Couponing. Is it "Hoarding" to you?

Ugh....I was on a blog recently where the topic was "Extreme couponing".  Alot of the thoughts I heard of couponers is that, the only way some of us get such great deal is by cutting bar codes up (lol....really!!!  I have never heard of this), that we double coupon (hey, I say do it if you have the stores!)  and other vicious things about how rude we are and that we are hoarders.

Hmm.....Here was part of my reply:

" I shop exclusively at Walmart.  Walmart does not double coupons.  My savings are completely done with coupon overages.  I had to get very creative here in a small town that does not double (heck, I don't think even the state does...lol)  and we are such a small town that we only have two stores in which to PM (price match)  Walmart does price match, but it is much easier for me to just gather overage sales and work from that to build my grocery list.

There are alot of products bought that we will never use, and those do go to one of two places in our local community.
My goal within a year is to be able to do a ministry food outreach program for familys in need.  I think it is do able, and is actually the reason I started with this all,....the hobby and love for it came second.  We have been able to bless so many (not just our own family) through God's abundance towards us, and I really do believe that is what God would have us do.

The stock piling for a year is not hoarding (although some do and I understand that some may see a years worth as hoarding)  Couponing is a seasonal thing.  You have certain products that will only be a good deal during one, maybe two seasons of the year....thus, you stock up.  That way you can take that certain item off your list for a year.  This season think...."Picnic items"  The items that will be on sale will be paper plates, hot dogs, napkins, potatoe chips, ect......so while it may seem like hoarding to some (and again, in some cases it really is), not all the time it is....sometimes it's just a woman being smart, on the limited funds she has, and being a good steward of what God has given her

My Shopping Trip At Walmart This Week 5-18-11

The reason I want to post this for you, is that there are alot of new people out there starting to coupon.  When you are watching shows like "Extreme Couponing" you might see all of these great savings and are not really sure how they are doing it.  Let me assure you that anyone can do this!

This weeks shopping trip was done on overages.  Overages are what some stores will pay you back if your coupon value exceeds your item value.  Case in point this week is the Similac Baby Formula.  These sell for $3.84 at Walmart (Walmart is my primary store)  There is a $5/1 coupon out there right now that is good until May 31, 11.  If I buy the Similac and use the $5 off coupon that leaves me with $1.16 overage.  I can use that towards other grocerys OR Walmart will give me that money back!  Pretty awesome, huh?

I did use 40 Similac coupons. Last Shopping Trip $13.45 for 47 items

Okay, last week was another great example of paying for your groceries with coupon overages.  "Overage" is the money you get back when the coupon value exceeds the item price.  We live in a very small town, so I am really limited to where I shop and price match.  Other than a Walmart Supercenter, we have two small chain grocery stores that aren't usually much for price matching (Walmart in our area is almost always the lowest already) with that being said, I have to get very creative on how we do our shopping.  My best weapon of savings is by using overages.  Here is my shopping list from last week and how I did it:

1 bag of Frego lite string cheese- $3.48 use $0.50/1 = $2.98

1 jar of Tostitos salsa con queso dip- $2.98 use $1/1 = $1.98

1 bag of Tostitos restaurant style chips-$2.98 use $1/1= $1.98

2 Liters of Pepsi Max sodas- Free use the "Buy Tostitos/get Pepsi Max Free = FREE

1 loaf of Great Value whole wheat bread- $.98

1 lemon- $0.38

2 Glade plug ins- $2.97 ($5.94) use $0.50/1 (x2) = $4.94 (for both)

2 cans of Great Value chick peas= $0.66= $1.32

2 avocados- $0.50 each = $1.00

3 2 Liter bottles of Walmart brand lemonade sodas- $0.68 each= $2.04

4 Speed Stick deodorants-$.98 each ($3.92) use $0.50/1 = 1.92 (for all four)

15 cans of Friskies cat food-$0.50 each (x15)=$6.50 use $1/15=$5.50

10 Similac Baby "Spit up" formulas-$3.84 each (x10)=$30.84 use $5/1= $11.16 Overage

1 package of Rayovac batteries-$0.97 use $1/1 = $0.03 Overage

1 KY jelly-$2.62 use $3/1= $0.38 Overage

Grand Total: $25.02- 11.57 in overages =$13.45 (not including $1.57 tax)

again, we have donated the baby formulas as we do not have a baby, but use these overages to pay for our groceries.  Did you have a great shopping week?  Please post your fabulous deals here.  Happy shopping!

FREE Nice'N Easy Hair Color at Walmart!

Be sure to check out your clearance area in Walmart this week.  This could possibly be a "money maker" coupon (YMMV)

$1.50 use your $2/1 coupon out of the 5/1 P&G = $0.50 Overage

Just a side note....I have worked for a couple of these companies over the years (Direct Response and Liveops, in past years) and currently work for one now, (ACD Direct, for the past nine months)  I really do enjoy working at home and there really are companies out there that are legitimate beyond just selling on Ebay or being an Avon consultant....don't get me wrong, these are great too!  Just do your homework.  I am not endorsing or being paid in any way to list these.  Some companies I might know something about, others you might have to look into, or just throw an application out there.  If you have any questions, please ask.  Do a check on each company, and ask other work at home moms (and dads).

It's getting a bit late into the evening here, so I will continue this list later.  I truly hope that this list will help someone out there searching.

Blessing Others Through Couponing

This morning I woke up so grateful....grateful for what it is I do for a hobby.  Couponing!  What an awesome way to bless others through Gods abundance.  After last nights shop, we are able to donate another 10 Similac baby formulas to a mother in need.  God is good!

I was watching another episode of TLC's "Extreme Couponing" last night and was empowered and inspired by the young man and his wife that gave 90% of what they had extra to supporting their local food banks and shelters.  What an extreme example of blessing others!

I poured my cup of coffee this morning and sat on the front porch pondering what God's vision is in all of this.  I know He has something wonderful planned and I'm excited by it all.  I also thought of how impactful it could be it others around the nation did the same thing......I'm inspired and just wanted to share.

My cupboards may never be the stockpile I've seen others have and that's okay, to bless others is better.
